Visit to the Children’s Surgical Ward

These children have all had surgery for “crooked legs”, a common occurrence here. They remain in the hospital for many weeks with the stick between the casts, then a few more weeks with the sticks removed. Often they require more than one surgery to fix the problems. Mass surgeries are performed every year by doctors from Holland. Click on any image to go to Gallery Mode. (P.S. Today we are just getting re-oriented and trying to get our land legs back. We are being greeted by everyone with open arms, hugs and blessings. We did go down to the hospital orphanage to see the children there. There are many new ones and some who are no longer here from last year.

: This beautiful girl lost her mother when she gave birth to her baby sister. The baby was sent to the hospital orphanage from a far away village. CeVee had to come as well, to care for her baby sister. That’s the way it works here.

Our ride from Doula yesterday was long and interesting. All of these images were shot from the car, sometimes moving at high speed over bumpy roads. I hit my head more than once on the window. I was so happy to be able to get what i did as there was no much stopping on an 8 hr trek.

Our driver stopped for a bite at one of the roadside stands. I was enamored with this woman stacking and smoking fish.

On the road to Njinikom from Douala, we pass through many small towns and villages and 2 small cities. I was exhausted by could not close my eyes in case i might miss something.

The fresh produce is beautiful and abundant…being sold along the road everywhere.

The children work hard here as soon as they are able.

Terry and Carol are on their way …

Terry and Carol at Dulles, Washington airport about to embark on their annual adventure … They’ve a Friday evening 7+ hour flight to Belgium – a 7 hour layover in Belgium – and then a 7 hour flight to Douala in Cameroon, Africa. They will then spend the night at Douala followed by an 8 hour (bumpy!) drive to Njiinikom … and then they start work … They send their Love and Gratitude for everyones support … be it text, prayer, love or donation … I certainly will miss Terry … But I’m so in awe of what Terry and Carol have done and are doing …Terry hopes to post to the blog Monday – but it depends on the internet, which in the past has been rather inconsistent at Njinikom.
