A sad day

Yesterday a baby we met on my first day here died.  He had 2nd degree burns all over his head and face.  It was questionable how it happened.  He had been brought in when it happened, was there for two days and then the parents took him home to try traditional treatment. Not uncommon here. They came back the day I arrived b/c the baby was getting worse.  Poor thing.  He died 5 days later.  They think it was sepsis. Bless him.  His parents paid half his bill but didn’t have the rest. Carol and I paid their balance ($40) so they could leave and take the baby home to bury him. Image

Children caring for babies

Children caring for babies

This is common…a 5 or 6 yr old caring for sibling. The house you see behind her is our lodging. we are on the 2nd floor. These buildings were built by the docs from Holland. they visit twice a year for mass surgeries on children with deformed legs. they do approx 200. We are sharing the space with Dr Jim and his wife Terry…who are from US Mission Doctors. They made a 3 yr commitment to stay here.
